The tiny town of Ferrum, Va. (home of the popular Ferrum College), hosts a myriad of wonderful activities every year and is only 45 minutes from the heart of Smith Mountain Lake. And you may want to make plans ahead for their Blue Ridge Folklife Festival in October. The ballads and banjo tunes of the coal mines will be ringing across the Ferrum College campus at the 34th Blue Ridge Folklife Festival, on Saturday, October 27, 2007. The festival brings together musicians and moonshiners, craftspeople and cooks, hot rodders and horse handlers—in short, a host of folk artists and artisans in a celebration of Blue Ridge heritage. A major venue on the Crooked Road Music Trail, the Blue Ridge Folklife Festival is a family event like no other. On Route 40 in Ferrum.
