There are many beautiful paths and hiking trails in the Smith Mountain Lake area for those who want to take advantage of this outdoor activity. Trekking through the woods on a summer day is the perfect way to relieve stress and commune with the Creator. You can choose from paths that intersect the water or take trails leading off into the forest and surrounding woodlands. Prepare ahead with bug repellent and water bottles, and perhaps even a picnic lunch for yourself and a friend. Get some exercise in the great outdoors this summer by walking one of the lovely trails at Smith Mountain Lake or the dam.
TRAILS: There are four main hiking trails at Smith Mountain Lake State Park, each less than two miles long, which meander through the park’s varied features including hardwood forests, pine forests, secluded coves, and picturesque vistas. The Chestnut Ridge and Turtle Island trails are open year-round; all others are open when the visitor center is open.
