Did you hear the story of the 12-year-old girl who caught something special while she and her family were fishing at Smith Mountain Lake? Here’s the story courtesy of the Smith Mountain Eagle.
Vinton resident Kayla Moore caught something unexpected while fishing at Smith Mountain Lake this past week. While fishing from a dock at Moorman’s Marina in Goodview, 12-year-old Kayla was able to reel in a three-pound, 19 and 1/2 inch long Brook Trout.
Using the bait of nightcrawlers, Kayla was able to catch a fish rarely seen in Smith Mountain Lake. It was just the second time this year that Kayla and her family had come to the Lake to fish. While the catch is not a Lake record, it is a very rare sight at a Lake, where most fishermen catch stripers, bass, and catfish.
