Smith Mountain Lake has yet another great reason to get out and enjoy the day. The newly created Westlake Farmer’s Market will be starting its inaugural season on May 5th and continuing through October 28th. It will be held at the lot located between The Lake Inn and Smith Mountain Building Supply on Route 122. In a recent article from The Smith Mountain Eagle, John, and Janice Walke, organizers of the new market stated:
The process of getting the market together has gotten off to a good start, there is a lot of interest from the growers to participate in the market and we feel there is enough positive public interest to make the market a success.
The article goes on to say the Market will be open on Fridays and Saturdays from 8:00 am to 1:00 pm… rain or shine.
Some of the products that will be available include locally grown vegetables, large and small fruits, eggs, honey, cut flowers, herbs, bedding plants, poultry, beef, pork, and lamb throughout the season. There will also be a variety of value-added products from homemade jellies and soaps to home-spun yarns.
