Smith Mountain Lake is most definitely “the gem of the Blue Ridge Mountains”, but even the most beautiful of gems needs cleaning and polishing occasionally. For the 19th year running now, the Smith Mountain Lake Cleanup Day will be held this Saturday, May 6. According to Rob Lyon at The Smith Mountains Eagle:
Hundreds of volunteers are expected to scour the Lake helping to clear debris from the water and shoreline. Drop-off points have been set up for collecting the debris. In exchange for bringing a special orange trash bag full of debris to one of the drop-off sites that also provide food, each person will be treated to a free lunch.
