It’s fun to find that the place you have chosen to make your home, (or even live close to), is the object of admiration by visitors. I recently found some reviews of Smith Mountain Lake on a Yahoo site and skimmed a couple of them out for you to read and enjoy, hopefully as much as I did.
My husband and I went to Smith Mt. Lake for a weekend to take a sailing lesson in the fall of 2003. During this first visit, we found the lake to be so inviting from the drive along country roads with roadside farmer markets and old tobacco barns to the Forrest that surrounds so many sections of the lake. The lake, with calm waters, has several scattered uninhabited islands, where we docked our boat on one and had a picnic, enjoyed a swim, and watched a breathtaking sunset on this island we had all to ourselves. The views at Smith Mountain Lake are so picturesque with the Mountains in the background and lovely waterfront homes that adorn the shoreline. We fell in love with the lake so much during the first visit that we decided to buy some property to build our own lakefront home. (By Retta Bradley from Manassas, VA )
We loved our stay at Smith Mountain Lake State Park. It was our first annual family trip and we were so pleasantly surprised at how easy it was to get to from our home in NY. The park has lovely cabins for rent, although, we found that they were more like cottages with central air and modern appliances.
We brought a boat and enjoyed tooling around the lake enjoying sites. Especially loved an area where we could park the boat and shop in a variety of fun shops.
There was something for everyone in our group to enjoy….fishing, sunbathing and just hanging out.
Loved it! (By P. Clocksin from Rochester, NY)
This is a place to regenerate the batteries. You can boat shop eat out and just read and enjoy the day. You also have a state park to fill up your days. Oh and of course fish! (By W.J.S. from New Jersey)
