September 19th is a day to mark on your calendars as it may go down in Smith Mountain Lake history! In case you are unaware of what has been going on these past few months, there is a movie being produced at the lake which involves “Smithy”, the Loch Ness-type monster of SML.
Members of the “Smithy Research Society” are convinced this creature lurks beneath Smith Mountain Lake. To persuade many characters in the film of Smithy’s supposed existence, the stake-out members build Smithy overnight and he/she makes its big debut at the climax of the film, the Smith Mountain Lake Wine Festival.
There has been a contest during the past weeks to see who could build the best monster to be used in the movie. The Lake Effects production team will unveil these lake monster submissions on Sunday, Sept. 19th for a chance at the upcoming role of “Smithy”, the Smith Mountain Lake Monster. The unveiling will take place at Penhook Boat Dock in Penhook, VA at 3:30 pm!
Don’t miss it! Be part of the fun and the history.
